Chapter 89: A Visit to Brocade Garden

After a long while, Gu Zehuai took Wen Jiu to wash her hands.

It was already late. As soon as Wen Jiu got back into bed, she fell asleep. Gu Zehuai held her in his arms and gradually drifted off as well.

The next day was the New Year’s holiday, and, for the first time in a long while, the two of them woke up naturally without an alarm.

Wen Jiu’s stomach ached faintly with that familiar sensation. But it was the same every month; she was used to it by now.

As they ate breakfast, Wen Jiu asked Gu Zehuai if he wanted to go out during the holiday.

Gu Zehuai looked at her and gently replied, “Are you sure your body can handle it? You just mentioned your stomach hurts a little.”

Whether they went out or not didn’t matter much to Gu Zehuai; what he cared about was Wen Jiu’s health.

The weather in City A was absurdly warm, so much so that even in January, people could still wear T-shirts and shorts. Wen Jiu was never worried about catching a chill.

She could tell that Gu Zehuai wanted her to rest at home, but Wen Jiu couldn’t sit still. She hadn’t had a proper break in so long and just wanted to go out and have some fun.

Unable to dissuade her, Gu Zehuai finally agreed to take her out the next day.

New Year’s Day was still two days away; tomorrow night they could celebrate together and welcome the new year.

Wen Jiu began searching online for local attractions and planning their outing.

She looked at several spots, all of which were crowded with visitors even on regular days, not to mention during the holidays.

Slumping onto the sofa, Wen Jiu muttered under her breath, “I just want to go out and have a little fun. Why is every place so packed?”

Gu Zehuai had just finished clearing the table and heard her complaint as he walked over.

After a moment’s thought, he suggested, “How about going to Jin Garden?”

Wen Jiu hadn’t heard of it before and shot him a questioning look.

Gu Zehuai explained, “It’s a resort built by the Gu family’s company. It’s just been completed and will officially open to the public in ten days, but we can go.”

Wen Jiu looked it up online and discovered that Jin Garden was a large-scale resort combining a zoo, an ocean kingdom, and both traditional and modern entertainment facilities, all while preserving vast stretches of natural landscape.

Seeing her interest piqued, Gu Zehuai added, “It’s not open to the public yet, but all the basic facilities are ready, and every attraction has passed rigorous safety checks, so there’s nothing to worry about. If you really want to have some fun, we can go there.”

Wen Jiu nodded, thinking it sounded like a good idea.

The next day, the two of them drove to Jin Garden.

To Wen Jiu’s surprise, there were already a handful of people inside.

Upon asking Gu Zehuai, she learned that these were the families of the designers, builders, and workers involved in Jin Garden’s construction. They had been granted permission to visit and enjoy the resort with their relatives before the grand opening.

Wen Jiu found this rather unheard of.

Since it wasn’t just the two of them, Wen Jiu felt free to enjoy herself.

Except for the roller coaster and drop tower—which Gu Zehuai insisted she not ride alone—Wen Jiu tried every attraction she wanted.

It was only then that Wen Jiu discovered Gu Zehuai had a slight fear of heights.

A little regretful that she didn’t get to ride the roller coaster, Wen Jiu made a silent vow: next time, she would definitely try it.

They spent nearly the entire day inside Jin Garden.

As dusk approached, the two finally left.

Gu Zehuai drove and said, “Let’s go get dinner.”

Wen Jiu nodded; with Gu Zehuai around, she never had to worry about a thing.

He parked the car outside a small alley, got out, and opened the door for her.

Just as Wen Jiu was wondering if he was planning to take her into the alley, Gu Zehuai took her hand and led her inside.
