After dinner, the two of them stayed the night at the old residence.
After several visits, Wen Jiu no longer felt uncomfortable staying there. Besides, everyone in the Gu family was warm and kind to her.
That night, Gu Zehuai held Wen Jiu in his arms as they lay in bed. Gently pinching the soft flesh at her waist, he asked in a low voice, “Jiujiu, what kind of wedding would you like?”
Wen Jiu thought for a moment before answering simply, “A traditional Chinese one.”
Ever since she was a child, Wen Jiu had been captivated by the elaborate costumes and makeup of traditional Chinese weddings in historical dramas. She had often found herself imagining what her own wedding might be like someday.
But she also wanted to wear a Western-style wedding gown.
When Gu Zehuai heard this, he smiled. Since Jiujiu liked both, they would have both.
When they discussed the wedding date, Wen Jiu answered without hesitation, “Autumn. I like autumn.”
It was the end of May. Autumn was neither very far away nor particularly close.
Still, Gu Zehuai thought that if they began making preparations now, there would be more than enough time.
“All right, Jiujiu. Let’s find a day to take our wedding photos. I’ve already made contact with a studio. The details will be sent to your phone tomorrow.”
Wen Jiu was amazed by Gu Zehuai’s efficiency, but he merely smiled and said, “I want to bring you home as my wife as soon as possible.”
The next day, they returned to the Wen residence for dinner, and Wen Jiu told her parents about their plans.
The couple naturally had no objections. As for the Gu family, there was even less to say. Grandmother Gu and Gu’s mother simply told Wen Jiu to choose an auspicious day she liked.
Whenever he was not at work, Gu Zehuai followed up on the wedding venue and the custom-made wedding attire.
Wen Jiu designed the wedding gown herself, while Gu Zehuai found a specialist to create the traditional Chinese wedding outfit.
The gown was completed quickly, and Gu Zehuai took Wen Jiu to the bridal shop for a fitting.

The instant Wen Jiu emerged from the fitting room, Gu Zehuai could not stop himself from standing up and walking toward her.
Wen Jiu saw the wonder in his eyes. Blinking, she smiled and asked, “Does it look good?”
“It looks beautiful. My Jiujiu is the most beautiful of all.”
The shop assistant guided Wen Jiu into different poses and took numerous photographs of her.
Wen Jiu sent the pictures to Shen Mengxia and Lin Lehan, receiving a flood of praise in return.
There were still a few details of the gown that needed to be altered. After discussing them with the shop assistant, Wen Jiu left the bridal shop with Gu Zehuai.
They were scheduled to take their wedding photographs that weekend. On Friday evening, they arrived at the location and checked into a hotel.
That night, Wen Jiu tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
“What’s wrong? Can’t you sleep?” Gu Zehuai asked as he embraced her from behind.
“I’m feeling a little emotional. How is it that I’m getting married so soon?”
Gu Zehuai turned Wen Jiu to face him. “Jiujiu, you’re not having second thoughts, are you? I’ve already decided that you’re the one for me in this lifetime.” As he spoke, he tightened his arms around her.
Wen Jiu sighed inwardly. How could Gu Zehuai be so insecure? She was merely feeling sentimental.
After several days of shooting, they finished taking all the styles of wedding photographs Wen Jiu had chosen.
The final retouched images were not ready yet, but Wen Jiu already felt satisfied just looking at the unedited pictures.
It was already late June, and the weather was growing hotter by the day. Even walking from the office to the underground parking lot was enough to leave her drenched in sweat.
Gu Zehuai simply began driving Wen Jiu to and from work every day, saving her the trouble of driving herself.
Though their days were ordinary, Wen Jiu felt happy and deeply content.

Wen Jiu temporarily set aside preparations for her studio. Planning the wedding was already more than enough to keep her busy.
She had tried on the wedding gown, but the most exhausting part was trying on the phoenix coronet and ceremonial robes. Putting them on and taking them off each time took a very long while.
The phoenix coronet was heavy, and after trying it on twice, Wen Jiu felt that her neck was already aching.
In the end, the two of them chose the day on which they would register their marriage: the Qixi Festival.
Although they knew the Civil Affairs Bureau would be especially crowded that day, Wen Jiu loved the meaning behind the festival.
They both rose early that morning and went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to join the queue.
For once, Gu Zehuai was so nervous that his palms began to sweat.
With a smile, Wen Jiu squeezed his hand and comforted him.
Once their turn came, the remaining procedures went by quickly.
When Wen Jiu held the red marriage certificate in her hands, it still felt somewhat unreal.
Gu Zehuai opened it and looked at it again and again. Finally, he clasped Wen Jiu’s hand, took a photograph, and posted it to his social media feed.
Friends who knew about them, such as Pei Yi and Lin Youqi, as well as both families, sent their congratulations one after another. Even the ordinary acquaintances who had only added Gu Zehuai on WeChat were so shocked that they filled the comments with exclamation marks. But when they opened Gu Zehuai’s profile, they discovered that his cover photo was Wen Jiu and his signature read “Jiujiu,” so they all sent their blessings as well.
Wen Jiu also posted the photograph Gu Zehuai had taken. Unexpectedly, among the comments, she saw one from Yu Keyan offering her congratulations.
