Chapter 66: Senior
"Miss Wen, Mr. Gu will finish his meeting in about fifteen minutes. Would you like something to drink?"
"Just plain water, thank you," Wen Jiu replied.
Chen Yi brought the water and placed it on the table in front of Wen Jiu before closing the door and leaving.
Alone in the office, Wen Jiu glanced around. The office was spacious, decorated in a stark black-and-white minimalist style that suited Gu Zehuai's personality perfectly. Behind the desk was another door, likely leading to a small lounge.
After taking in her surroundings, Wen Jiu picked up her phone and began reading a novel.
Time always slipped away quickly when reading.
She had only read a few chapters before she felt someone gently poke her arm.
Looking up, Wen Jiu saw Gu Zehuai. Her eyes instantly lit up. "You're done with your meeting."
Gu Zehuai responded with a quiet "Mm." "What were you reading that had you so absorbed? I called you twice just now."
Wen Jiu locked her phone and stood up. "I got too caught up in the novel. I didn't hear you. Let's go, it's time to get off work."
Gu Zehuai nodded, naturally picking up the bag behind Wen Jiu and carrying it for her.
The two walked side by side.
Most employees had already left as they exited the office, with only a few desks still brightly lit.
As they passed through the workspace, the remaining employees appeared focused on their tasks, but in truth, they were all secretly watching Gu Zehuai and Wen Jiu.
Once the pair entered the elevator, the employees quickly grabbed their phones, and excitement flared up again in the company group chat.
Inside the elevator, Gu Zehuai asked, "Is there anything you'd like to eat, or any place you'd like to go?"
Wen Jiu thought for a moment; she did have a good spot in mind. She answered mysteriously, "I know a place. Let's go together."
Gu Zehuai nodded.
After exiting the elevator, they headed to the parking lot.
Wen Jiu realized he intended for them to take one car together.
After nearly two days apart, Gu Zehuai had no intention of leaving her side, nor did he plan to drive his own car.
Wen Jiu started the car and drove toward City A First High School.
As the scenery became more and more familiar, Gu Zehuai guessed Wen Jiu's destination.
"Jiu Jiu, are we returning to our alma mater?"
Wen Jiu laughed. "You caught me."
Finally, Wen Jiu parked on the outskirts of the snack street, and the two walked in together.
Wen Jiu led Gu Zehuai into a small restaurant.
It was past seven, and the place was not as crowded as earlier.
The woman who owned the restaurant greeted Wen Jiu with a smile. "Jiu Jiu, it's been so long since you last came by," she said, then noticed Gu Zehuai beside her. "Oh, is this your boyfriend? He’s so handsome, and he looks familiar. Young man, did you also attend First High for high school?"
Gu Zehuai nodded at her question and replied, "Yes, Auntie, I was at First High, too."
Wen Jiu was astonished, and after sitting down with Gu Zehuai, she couldn't resist asking, "So you went to First High for high school, too? You never mentioned it, senior."
She teased him by calling him "senior."
Gu Zehuai's gaze darkened, carrying a hint of danger.
"What did you call me? Hmm? Say it again."
Wen Jiu could tell exactly what Gu Zehuai was thinking. Blushing, she lightly slapped his arm. "What’s going on in your head? Hurry and order."
The two picked up the menu and chose a few homestyle dishes.
The restaurant was small with limited seating, but it was clean and tidy, close to the school. Wen Jiu had often come here with Shen Mengxia for meals during her high school days.
