Chapter 65: Waiting for the End of the Workday
With that thought, Wen Jiu said, “Let’s just go with the flow. Right now, it feels a bit too soon.”
Gu Zehuai agreed with Wen Jiu’s sentiment and nodded.
Even though they’d only been apart for a day, Gu Zehuai felt as if ages had passed. He had an overwhelming urge to fly straight to Wen Jiu’s side.
“Jiujiu, I miss you so much,” he said, his voice low and husky.
If he wanted, Gu Zehuai could have driven over to see Wen Jiu right away. But he knew she hadn’t told her family about their relationship yet, and he didn’t want to put her in a difficult position. It would be better to wait until things had settled down a bit more.
Wen Jiu was surprised to hear Gu Zehuai express his longing so openly—it was out of character for someone usually so reserved.
But the truth was, she missed him too. In a small voice, she promised they’d see each other tomorrow.
Gu Zehuai was overjoyed to hear that.
They chatted for quite a while longer before finally hanging up.
Wen Jiu scrolled through videos until nearly midnight before finally putting her phone down to sleep.
She sent Gu Zehuai a good-night message and then drifted off.
Meanwhile, Gu Zehuai was still in his study, attending a transnational meeting. It was the intermission, and while he massaged his temples to relax, Wen Jiu’s good-night message arrived.
He smiled as he replied, then returned to his meeting.
The next day was Wednesday. Both Wen Jiu and Gu Zehuai were swamped with work, so much so that there were long gaps between their replies to each other’s messages.
After working more than an hour overtime, Wen Jiu messaged Gu Zehuai, only to learn he hadn’t finished work yet.
After some thought, Wen Jiu decided to go directly to Gu Corporation to wait for him so they could have dinner together.
She sent Gu Zehuai a message, then drove to Gu Corporation.
Her own workplace, Jingyan, was in a completely different direction, and it took more than half an hour to drive there.
After parking her car and arriving at the reception desk of Gu Corporation, Wen Jiu hadn’t even had time to state her reason for coming before Assistant Chen Yi came down from upstairs.
Chen Yi had met Wen Jiu before and naturally knew she was Gu Zehuai’s girlfriend.
He went straight over to her and politely led the way. “Miss Wen, President Gu is still in a meeting. He asked me to come down and escort you. This way, please.”
Wen Jiu noticed the receptionist eyeing her curiously, clearly wondering about her identity.
Wen Jiu smiled at the receptionist, thanked Chen Yi, and followed him to the elevator.
Chen Yi stood a step behind Wen Jiu, marveling inwardly: Miss Wen really is impressive, managing to win over the iceberg that is President Gu.
Meanwhile, as soon as Wen Jiu and Chen Yi entered the elevator, the receptionist couldn’t contain her curiosity any longer and immediately started gossiping in the staff group chat.
“A girl just came to see President Gu, and Chen Yi personally came down to escort her! She’s stunning and so elegant! She must be President Gu’s girlfriend—what a perfect match, truly a beautiful couple!”
The previously quiet group chat instantly burst into life.
Even the usually silent lurkers started chiming in.
“Is this for real? President Gu actually has a girlfriend?!”
“It’s true! I saw her outside the elevator just now! She’s gorgeous and so classy!” eyewitnesses confirmed.
“Oh no, President Gu’s finally fallen for someone—I’m heartbroken, boohoo.”
“Isn’t that the same girl who ate with President Gu in the company cafeteria last time? As expected, there’s something going on between them!”
One message after another appeared, all centering on Wen Jiu’s identity.
Some speculated she was Gu Zehuai’s girlfriend; others thought they might simply be friends.
Chen Yi, who knew the truth, silently watched the discussion without revealing anything, even when tagged.
After all, this was something that needed to be confirmed by the people involved—he couldn’t divulge the boss’s private life.
Unaware of the lively debate sparked by her arrival, Wen Jiu sat patiently in Gu Zehuai’s office, waiting for him to finish his meeting.
