Chapter 84: Refusing to Yield
“If you move any farther, you’ll fall off,” Wen Jiu reminded him.
Gu Zehuai pretended to be asleep and didn’t budge.
Wen Jiu smiled helplessly; his little temper was really something.
She lay down, took the initiative to reach over and hug Gu Zehuai, wrapping her arms around his waist and admitting her fault, “I know I was wrong. I promise I won’t ignore you because I’m playing on my phone again, alright?”
Only then did Gu Zehuai turn around, speaking with a touch of arrogance, “That’s more like it.”
Seeing him turn to face her, Wen Jiu secretly laughed to herself. So he was this easy to coax.
But she also knew Gu Zehuai could never truly be angry over something like this; he simply wanted her to pay more attention to him.
After Gu Zehuai turned around, Wen Jiu’s hand remained at his waist, and Gu Zehuai, in turn, wrapped his arm around hers.
They only had a thin blanket covering them. Usually Wen Jiu found it just right, but with Gu Zehuai there tonight, she felt unbearably hot.
She quietly loosened her grip and retreated a little, yet Gu Zehuai noticed and immediately pulled her back. “Why are you so far from me?”
“Don’t you feel hot?” Wen Jiu asked.
Truth be told, Gu Zehuai did feel hot under the blanket, but he couldn’t bear to have her so far away.
So he asked, “Is there another thin blanket? I’ll get it.”
Wen Jiu pointed to the wardrobe. “It’s in there.”
Gu Zehuai fetched it, replaced the old one, and set the original at the foot of the bed on the sofa.
“Now you can’t get away from me,” he said triumphantly.
Wen Jiu wanted to laugh. She truly felt the contrast in Gu Zehuai before and after falling in love was far too great; she never imagined he would have such a childish side.
Thinking this, Wen Jiu couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Gu Zehuai, puzzled, asked her, but Wen Jiu only shook her head mysteriously.
The room’s main light was off, leaving only the two small bedside lamps. In their dim glow, Gu Zehuai could see Wen Jiu’s smiling face.
The two were pressed close together. Just then, Wen Jiu moved a little, and Gu Zehuai felt a rush of heat throughout his body. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he warned, “You don’t want to sleep?”
Hearing this, Wen Jiu immediately froze, sensing the change in his body.
This time, it was Gu Zehuai who quietly shifted away. Wen Jiu remembered how just moments ago he’d clung to her like a koala, complaining she was too distant, but now he deliberately kept his distance. Mischief sparked in her heart.
She pretended not to notice his little maneuver and instead pressed herself closer to him. Her breath brushed lightly against his neck, making him shudder.
Wen Jiu secretly delighted: Serves you right for teasing me earlier.
She kept moving in small increments, but Gu Zehuai quickly realized Wen Jiu was doing it on purpose.
When she tried again to inch closer, Gu Zehuai suddenly flipped over, pinning Wen Jiu beneath him.
“So you don’t want to sleep, do you, Jiu?”
Sensing the shift, Wen Jiu immediately pleaded, “I want to sleep, I want to sleep! Why wouldn’t I?”
“Too late,” Gu Zehuai replied, feigning coldness, and before Wen Jiu could react, he bent down and captured her lips in a sudden kiss.
It happened so quickly Wen Jiu had no time to respond, only feeling Gu Zehuai’s lips moving against hers.
Her body gradually softened, and she instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck, awkwardly responding.
Gu Zehuai felt her initiative and was elated.
His lips moved from hers and began trailing downward, while his hands deftly undid the buttons of her nightgown one by one.
Though Wen Jiu was a bit bewildered, she refused to be outdone. Her soft hands climbed over Gu Zehuai’s shoulders, gradually reaching his collar, and she began to unbutton his shirt, mimicking his actions.
The room was so quiet their breathing could be heard clearly. As their eyes met, the flames in their gaze seemed to burn ever brighter.
At last, neither could remain composed.
Gu Zehuai’s hands roamed, and Wen Jiu’s did as well.
Neither of them stopped.
Wen Jiu’s nightgown had already been discarded by Gu Zehuai, leaving her shyly covering herself.
She felt her palms burning, her cheeks even hotter.
Gu Zehuai gently kissed her, intertwining their fingers.
She didn’t know how much time passed, but Wen Jiu was so exhausted she didn’t want to move, complaining about how it still wasn’t over.
