The two sides split up. Pike took three dog-men to scout the situation inside the city, while Wujue remained behind to hold the amusement park.

Xuner soon reported that the barrier could last at most another seven or eight hours. The corpse poison exuded by the zombies was having a heavy effect on it, as though they were secretly eroding their own protection from within.

Wujue thought for a moment, then said, “Then we’ll use the old trick of closing the door and beating the dog. Divide one area of the amusement park off as a special zone, leave a gap, let them in, and clean them out slowly.”

At once, Xuner was fired up by the idea and went to work at once. Before long, she had opened a tiny breach at the weakest point in the zombie gathering. Wujue led Luke and the others to wait behind the slide, ready to strike.

Not long after, the zombies sensed the opening in the barrier and began filing in. Wujue raised a sniper rifle and took aim at the zombies entering through the gap, but he did not give the order to fire.

“More. Let more of them in!” he instructed Xuner. Only after more than a dozen zombies had entered side by side did he suddenly command, “Seal the barrier. Prepare to move.”

He was the first to shoot. With a sharp crack, the frontmost zombie’s head burst apart.

Luke followed with an anti-gravity field, lifting the three zombies at the very front straight into the air. Then he cut the field away, and they crashed down hard, reduced to a mangled mess.

Everyone sprang into action, unleashing a ruthless slaughter upon the zombies that had broken into the amusement park. Wujue fired again and again, knocking down more than half of them, and thought to himself that things were going almost too smoothly.

Just then, the first zombies that had been shot down actually swayed back to their feet. Though the wounds on their heads continued to gush blood, their movements had not stopped.

Damn. These zombies had already evolved to mend the weakness in their heads. It seemed that simple headshots were no longer enough. The Heavenly Punishment Tribe virus on them would have to be purged completely.

Wujue immediately put down the sniper rifle, grabbed a submachine gun, and flashed out to draw the zombies toward him. “Come on,” he called. “This monk is right here. Come and have a proper fight with me.”

He was the first to reach the zombie at the very front, flicking out two shots. The bullets carried tremendous impact, punching straight through the creature’s neck. With two wet pops, its head was blown clean off.

Wujue immediately stepped in and kicked the body down. A mass of purple energy surged from his palm, and the fierce power of witchcraft poured into the corpse, detonating the virus inside it in an instant.

The other zombies slowly began to rise as well. Sensing Wujue’s attack, they surged toward him. He fired as he retreated, luring the creatures toward the carousel while telling Luke, “Use your anti-gravity field and get the horses spinning.”

Luke understood at once. He fixed his gaze on the zombies, and when they followed Wujue up onto the carousel platform, he suddenly wrapped the ride in an anti-gravity field and set it spinning at once.

The violent rotation hurled Wujue and the zombies into the air. They nearly tore free of the ground and flew out of the carousel’s control. Wujue clung desperately to the horse beneath him, waiting for the right moment. Then, with a mighty roar like a lion’s from the Buddhist faith, he shook the surrounding zombies so violently that they were all blasted out of the field.

One after another, they crashed down in a ruin of blood and flesh, and every last virus within them was crushed to death.

Luke hurriedly withdrew the field and immediately aimed at the next target, while Xuner seized the chance to use sorcery to pull Wujue down from the carousel. “Are you all right? If I’d known, I would have used witchcraft and frozen them in place.”

“It’s fine. There are so many facilities here; we should make full use of them.” Wujue glanced at the Ferris wheel, the roller coaster, and the other rides in the park. “Today, you can have all the fun you want.”

Xuner was thrilled beyond measure and bounced on her feet. “That’s wonderful. I’ve dreamed of this day forever. Wait a minute, though, there isn’t even any power here. How are we supposed to play?”

Wujue caught sight of a zombie rising behind her and pulled Xuner into his arms, then fired at once. “If there’s no electricity, then we’ll just find a way to make some.”

Two shots cracked out. The zombie’s head burst into blossoms of gore, its body riddled through and through, and it collapsed to the ground as nothing more than wreckage.

In Wujue’s arms, Xuner was so blissfully happy she could hardly contain herself. She looked up, then stood straight and said, “All right. I’m already brimming with strength. I’ll light this whole place up.”

With that, she darted away, making straight for the generator room.

Wujue did not hesitate either. He raised his gun and rejoined the battle to deal with the remaining zombies. Although only a dozen or twenty had been let in, they were not so easy to clear out.

One of the frog-folk was quickly wounded. After being bitten in the struggle and finally swallowing his opponent’s head, he was infected by the virus and immediately turned into one of the zombies.

The other two cat-people hesitated at the sight, their claws bared, unsure whether they should attack.

Wujue stepped forward and fired his shotgun directly into the frog-folk warrior’s head, then told the two of them, “At a time like this, you cannot afford the slightest mercy, or you’ll be making things hard on yourselves.”

The frog-folk warrior’s head was blasted away, yet the huge body still stood there, not falling.

Wujue moved closer, intending to inspect it, when a long tongue suddenly shot out from within the corpse and nearly wrapped around his body. Fortunately, he shoved back in time and thrust the shotgun forward, only to have the tongue coil around the barrel.

The two sides tugged back and forth. Just as the struggle became deadlocked, the two cat-people leapt in, slicing through the tongue with their claws. Then, in a blur of motion, they circled the frog-folk warrior several times, and with their sharp claws, actually cut his body into several pieces.

Seeing this, Wujue stepped forward, raised his shotgun, and aimed at the black virus that was seeping out of the corpse, firing several shots in succession.

His own sorcerous power, combined with the force of the shells, blew those viruses apart in an instant.

Another target was eliminated.

At that very moment, all the lights in the amusement park came on, illuminating the grounds at once. Every ride began to turn, and Wujue and the others could not help being drawn in by the brilliant colors.

It looked as though Xuner had succeeded. She had actually repaired the generator. Wujue immediately called out to Luke and the others, “Lead them onto the Ferris wheel and the roller coaster. We’ll take them one by one.”

At once, the group withdrew in different directions, each choosing a battleground and preparing to catch the zombies off guard.

The remaining zombies chased after Wujue and followed him up onto the Ferris wheel. Wujue sat down in the front seat, flipped the switch directly, and rose slowly into the air.

He reached out and smashed the glass of the cabin window, then aimed at the zombies climbing up below. Only after they had reached higher ground did he fire and bring them down.

At once, two zombies were hit and smashed to pieces. The rest kept climbing, only to be flung into the air by a burst of pink energy, tumbling down in disarray.

Xuner could be seen seated on the carousel, about to bite into cotton candy, and she was just getting started.

“Haha, wasn’t my timing perfect?” Xuner said proudly. “Want me to let in another batch so we can keep fighting to our hearts’ content?”

Wujue smiled. “As long as you don’t mind being frightened, go ahead.”

By then, the first wave of zombies that had been let in was basically dealt with. It was time to open the gap again and slowly finish off another batch.

Xuner immediately cast her spell and opened the breach once more, drawing yet another wave of zombies inside. This time, a great many came in.

It turned out that the zombies outside had waited for a long time and already sensed what was going on inside. Perhaps they had guessed that Wujue and the others intended to take them down one by one, so they had gathered in large numbers near the breach.

The instant it opened, they all rushed in at once, hoping to win by sheer numbers.

Wujue saw the mob charging in with fierce momentum, and as soon as they entered, he fired wildly without distinguishing friend from foe.

Xuner was so frightened she ran around in panic and hid directly behind the carousel, shouting, “Xuner, are you all right? I’m coming to help!”

He leapt down from the Ferris wheel at once and, with a crisp burst of gunfire, shot the weapons out of the hands of the zombies aiming at Xuner.

The end.
