Chapter 101: A Bold Life, Without Regrets
In an instant, the flames of war spread, and both sides were locked in a fierce struggle, playing out a blood-stirring drama before Wujue’s very eyes.
He, at last, was resurrected from the icy grip that had encased him.
The return of Tell and the relentless fight of Xun’er—all of it was witnessed by him, and he could not help but sigh deeply, “Why must it be this way? The one who should have delivered salvation to all should have been me. Why, then, must you risk life and death for my sake?”
“Maybe this is what friendship truly means,” the feline alien, Meowpu, had at some point reverted to its cat form, scampered out from the collapsing building, and now sat beside Wujue, scratching its neck with nonchalance as it spoke. “Wujue, you should be grateful that they are willing to stake their lives for you. It just proves that you have never been alone.”
Yes, in that fleeting moment, Wujue felt as though he had been transported to another scene from his past—a time when he, too, had gathered comrades, each ready to lay down their lives, fighting together against the alien invaders for a shared purpose.
Back then, he had already witnessed countless acts of valor and friendship.
Such is the heroic life—lived without regret or complaint.
Wujue calmly recited a Buddhist chant, then unfastened the chain-and-dart from his waist, swirling the circular weapon open in his palm.
Let us spend the last of our passion in battle!
With a roar, Wujue charged into the horde of zombies, fighting with wild abandon. You treat me with friendship; I shall repay you with blood and courage.
Let this heroism resound through heaven and earth!
Wujue unleashed a killing spree, his formidable fighting spirit blazing anew—this time, he entered an even more powerful state.
The “Great Art of Transforming the Mundane,” which Huron had taught him, was especially effective in growing stronger against stronger foes. Coupled with his breakthrough to the sixth stage of the “Bone Transformation Sutra,” Wujue’s adaptability had reached new heights.
His own skeleton could now shift and change at his will. Moreover, having been frozen, his blood had circulated continuously, gradually acclimating him to the ice-based tactics wielded by Gumu and his zombie troops.
Now, like a tiger among sheep, he fought madly within the zombie ranks, seizing their firearms and fusing them in his hands to form even deadlier weapons. In no time at all, he had gathered hundreds of submachine guns, merging them into an unprecedented and bizarre weapon.
“Gumu, taste my return gift!” Taking aim at the trembling Gumu, Wujue suddenly unleashed his attack, firing a volley.
Hundreds of bullets roared forth, enveloped midair by a cloud of icy vapor, instantly coalescing into a single, devastating ice projectile that exploded before Gumu.
The force of the blast sent Gumu staggering back more than ten meters. Luckily, he managed to unleash a surge of frigid energy in time, clashing with Wujue’s bullet storm and barely avoiding annihilation.
“You’ve actually learned my moves. I really underestimated you!” Gumu sneered. Suddenly, his armor underwent a dramatic transformation, morphing into a massive arsenal. His warship sped over, anchoring beneath his feet and channeling torrents of icy energy into him.
“Wujue, watch out!” Tell dashed to his side in warning. “He’s going to use his battle armor against us. Gumu’s commandeered the tech of the mecha clans from across the cosmos—his prowess in mech combat is formidable.”
Wujue laughed. “Then let’s bring him down, hard!”
He raised his formidable weapon and unleashed another barrage—nearly a hundred rounds fired at once, forming a storm of missiles in the air that pressed straight toward Gumu. But Gumu, manipulating his armor, skated forward atop his warship and suddenly produced a shield, raising it with a powerful block.
The bullets exploded against the shield, freezing it almost entirely in an instant.
Seizing the moment, Gumu flicked the shield aside and leapt into the air, brandishing a massive ice axe four or five meters in length. He struck downward: “Die!”
With a thunderous impact, the blow landed squarely on Wujue’s weapon, scattering nearly a hundred machine guns in all directions.
Wujue seized the opportunity to dart forward, closing in on Gumu and unleashing a flurry of powerful palm strikes against the mecha armor Gumu commanded.
In a flash, nearly half of Gumu’s armor was stripped away. Just as Wujue was about to triumph, Gumu let out a furious roar—the warship beneath his feet surged with chilling energy, detonating and scattering both Wujue and the nearby Tell.
The two men were hurled dozens of meters through the air. Wujue crashed brutally into a building, smashing through four or five walls before coming to a halt.
Wiping blood from the corner of his mouth, he gave a cold, mirthless smile. “Now this is getting interesting. Without a real challenge, what’s the point?”
He sprang to his feet, tore away his shirt, revealing a body of rippling muscle, and drove his skeletal structure into a state of powerful mutation.
You have your armor; I have my mighty body. Wujue was determined to unleash the full extent of his sixth-level bone transformation.
With the surge of shamanic power within, Wujue’s body transformed once more. He mined deeper into his potential, and his bones swiftly extended outward, forming a thin protective layer atop his flesh.
He had changed the very density of his bones, his formidable aura manipulating his skeleton into a superhuman mutation. Now, bone and flesh were perfectly united. Wujue burst from the ruins, launching himself back into the fray.
Meanwhile, Gumu, having thrown the two aside, charged straight for Tell, intent on finishing him off. But Tell was not outmatched. He summoned a powerful beam of mirrored light before him, firing it at Gumu like a cascading waterfall.
As the mirror-light struck Gumu’s armor, it split into tens of thousands of concentrated beams, bombarding the armor at a speed too fast for the naked eye, disintegrating its defenses.
In less than half a minute, Gumu’s armor was all but torn away. Unexpectedly, Tell shaped another mirror-light into a massive fist and struck Gumu’s face, sending him flying.
Stripped of his armor, Gumu crashed to the ground. Tell was secretly delighted at his success. Without delay, he withdrew the mirror-light and leapt after Gumu, launching a frenzied assault.
But at that moment, a swarm of zombies surged in, shielding Gumu’s body. Tell had no time to distinguish friend from foe; he fired mirror-light in rapid succession, scattering the zombies. When Gumu’s figure was revealed again, his armor was nearly fully restored.
“Fool! The power of my armor comes from these minions. As long as they exist, I can revive at will!” Gumu sneered. Suddenly, a colossal pillar appeared in his hands and, with a thunderous blow, struck Tell in the chest. “You were too careless!”
In an instant, the pillar turned into a flurry of snowflakes, sealing away Tell’s divine mirror power.
Gumu flashed forward, activating four massive cannons on his body and firing at Tell.
Caught off guard, Tell was blasted several meters through the air, his body slamming against the wall of a skyscraper, blood pouring from his mouth.
As his body was about to slide down, Gumu launched a second wave—four more icy cannons fired in unison, swirling together in the air, converging on Tell.
Should this blow land, even the ancient White Tiger Divine Mirror would surely be unable to withstand it.
In that moment, Tell could not help but close his eyes in despair, thinking, “Wujue, this is the last thing I can do for you.”
The divine mirror on his chest flickered with an indomitable light, surging as if unwilling to die.
“That’s enough! You’ve already done more than enough!” Wujue’s voice rang out in the sky, his figure appearing before Tell. With one hand, he stood tall, shielding Tell. “Leave what remains to me.”
I will personally bring this man down.
