Chapter 70: A Crushing Defeat for the Navy!

Today, the usually dry and windless Calm Belt was shrouded in dark clouds. Though not a single breeze stirred, the gloomy sky pressed heavily on all present. Luffy and the others stood atop the fortress wall, scarcely daring to breathe aloud, the suffocating air weighing down on them.
“Sister Hancock, do you think Kamio and the others can win?” Nami whispered quietly beside Hancock.
Though her voice was soft, the oppressive silence made everyone hear her clearly, and all turned their eyes toward Hancock, curiosity and doubt flickering within them.
None of them truly knew Kamio’s true strength. They only knew he was formidable beyond measure, but with so many marines gathered—if they surrounded him—could Kamio and Robin, the Ice Phoenix, truly remain unscathed?
Seeing the worry etched on their faces, Hancock broke into a radiant smile—like sunlight piercing through the fog, spreading warmth to all around her.
“Don’t worry about them,” Hancock murmured softly. “Soon you’ll see for yourselves—it’ll be a one-sided affair.”
Brother Kamio, you must teach them a good lesson, she thought. Hancock herself lacked the strength to help, but she had absolute faith in him.
Her words left the others astonished. A one-sided affair? Seeing Hancock’s unshakable confidence, they realized she must mean the marines were the ones to be crushed. Yet, looking out at the countless naval warships, the Straw Hats felt their scalps prickle with dread.
Off to the side, Olvia leaned against a stone pillar, gazing serenely out at the distant sea. She showed not the slightest concern for Kamio’s fate. She recalled that even twenty years ago, when Kamio was barely ten, he’d already possessed astonishing power and mysterious abilities—capable of sealing people away inside strange objects. Her son-in-law harbored many secrets indeed.
“Uncle Kamio is over there!” Luffy suddenly shouted, pointing to the expanse between Amazon Lily and the approaching navy. Three figures stood suspended in the air, each separated by a hundred yards, blocking the marines’ advance in a straight line.
Kamio glanced at the flagship of the naval fleet, raising an eyebrow. There were Sengoku, Garp, two admirals, and scattered among the other ships, the Seven Warlords—Hawkeye, Julia, Moria, Doflamingo. Kuma had not come, but Kamio sensed over a hundred Pacifista units among the fleet.
The ships would soon be within firing range. Kamio’s gaze swept back to Amazon Lily, and he frowned. With a light step, his figure vanished, reappearing above the island’s center in the next instant.
Below, Hancock was the first to notice Kamio’s silhouette high above. She looked up, as did the Straw Hats. The distant navy could only make out a hazy figure, but it was clearly Kamio. Sengoku’s expression darkened—what was that man planning?
Suspended in the air, Kamio looked down at the island, his face grave. Suddenly, his hands began weaving seals at a frantic pace.
Within seconds, every sailor on the navy ships felt a breeze stir, while Sengoku, Garp, and the others stared in alarm. The wind that brushed past them was almost tangible spiritual energy, all converging toward Amazon Lily. Techniques that drew upon the world’s spiritual power directly—Sengoku knew a little of such things—but what terrified him was the sheer scope Kamio could command, far exceeding anything he’d imagined. This was an art unheard of. He looked up at Kamio, and at Robin and the Ice Phoenix standing their ground a kilometer away, then ordered the ships to halt.
Kamio’s sequence of hand seals did not last long—just a few hundred, completed in ten seconds. As he finished, he clapped his hands together, a faint purple glow flickering between them.
“Barrier! Crystal Wall!”
With a low shout, Kamio thrust his hands downward. Before the astonished eyes of all, purple light flowed from his palms, sending ripples racing outward toward the island’s edge. In moments, a pale violet dome enveloped Amazon Lily entirely. Kamio flicked the barrier gently with a finger, marveling at its strength—he doubted even his full-force punch could shatter it, though a sword might slice through.
Rising, Kamio vanished in an instant, reappearing at his original position.

He glanced at Robin and the Ice Phoenix, nodding slightly.
The three stepped forward as one.
Boom!
An overwhelming burst of Conqueror’s Haki erupted from within them, wild and unstoppable. The attack came so suddenly the navy could not react. Swept up by their terrifying force, the sea before Kamio churned violently. Waves hundreds of meters high crashed against the navy’s fleet, tossing their ships like leaves in a storm, utterly helpless.
“Ice Age!”
On the navy flagship below, Aokiji, regaining his footing amid the chaos, glanced at the disarrayed marines behind him. Struggling against the pressure of the Haki, he unleashed his Ice Age. Had Kamio and his two companions not spread their Haki to enclose such a vast expanse of sea, Aokiji and the others would have been unable even to lift a finger.
The raging ocean was rapidly frozen over. Three hundred navy warships became trapped, immobilized in the ice. Aokiji collapsed onto the frozen surface, completely spent—he’d burned his life force to freeze such a massive area. Now, even a seven-year-old with a knife could have slain him with ease.
The first round of the clash ended simply—Kamio’s side had the upper hand.
The Straw Hats, standing atop the wall, were utterly stunned by what they had witnessed, unable to catch their breath for a long while.
Hancock, meanwhile, maintained her enchanting smile—Kamio’s strength was far from spent.
Not far off, Rayleigh watched the three suspended figures as if beholding monsters. Their Haki was beyond description.
Kamio looked down at the frozen sea and said, “I’ll be the butcher—you two guard the island. Time for me to go on a killing spree.”
Robin and the Ice Phoenix exchanged a glance and nodded. Robin spoke, “Be careful.”
Kamio glanced back at them, flashing a mischievous grin. “Don’t worry.”
Clang!
The Violet Emperor was drawn.
Kamio moved lightly, soaring toward the densest cluster of navy warships.
Below, Sengoku and the others reacted instantly, preparing defenses.
Kamio hovered a hundred meters above the void, the Violet Emperor sword singing softly.

“Ha!”
With a sharp shout, Kamio raised his sword, a cold smile curling his lips. He slashed downward dozens of times in quick succession.
Buzz!
Dozens of sword beams sprang forth, descending with incomprehensible speed. By the time they’d fallen a hundred meters, each beam spanned hundreds of meters across and was as thick as a massive hammer.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Explosions roared in succession. Waves soared hundreds of meters high, obscuring all vision of what was happening below.
With a light step, Kamio returned to stand between Robin and the Ice Phoenix. They exchanged a smile, then the three strode toward Amazon Lily, treading air as they went.
Soon, the ocean calmed, but the scene that emerged was far from heartening. Of the three hundred massive navy warships, fewer than a dozen remained even remotely intact. The rest had either been blasted to pieces or shattered into enormous fragments scattered across the sea.
Out of more than three hundred thousand men, nearly seventy thousand perished in Kamio’s single strike. The number of wounded was impossible to count.
Though the battle had lasted only a short while, its impact was earth-shaking.
Luffy pounded his fist on the ground in frustration, lamenting his own weakness.
Other rookie pirates, witnessing the spectacle from afar, were shaken to the core. Were all the Four Emperors truly at such a level? How could anyone hope to survive in the New World?
A news ship broadcast the entire battle to the world. The sight of Kamio turning his back on the navy in utter disregard as he left was nothing short of legendary.
As for the navy, their crushing defeat was laid bare for all to see. Even with their full might assembled, the headquarters could not stand against the Four Emperors’ own Elros D. Kamio. This sight deeply wounded the hearts of all who longed for peace.
Word quickly spread of Kamio’s new title among the Four Emperors—the eldest, the Violet Emperor.
