Chapter 72: An Unexpected Guest
Lin Qi, Xie Lingzhou, and Wen Yue all turned their gazes toward the massive pit gouged into the ground by the tremendous force.
Lin Qi couldn’t help but exclaim, “That pit is really deep!”
Xie Lingzhou, however, was full of regret. “Those rainbow-colored pebbles were rare treasures, and now they’ve been reduced to dust…”
“Master, Third Senior Brother, why aren’t you paying attention to the person lying in the pit?” Wen Yue, ever the healer, was more concerned about the wounded man.
The four of them looked into the pit. Lying within was a tall man dressed in ragged beggar’s clothes.
His body was covered in dirt and blood, making it nearly impossible to discern his original features. Wounds crisscrossed his skin, leaving barely a patch untouched. Blood seeped from the corners of his eyes, ears, and mouth.
Ji Chuxue couldn’t shake the feeling that this man was not of the lower realms. Unable to restrain her curiosity, she asked, “Master, he fell from the sky. Can you sense the aura on him?”
Lin Qi stepped forward and observed the man closely. “Yes, he’s from the Divine Realm.”
Upon hearing this, Xie Lingzhou immediately tensed. “Master, does this mean our sect’s location has been exposed?”
Lin Qi waved a hand nonchalantly. “If I’m not worried, why should you be? Rest assured, this man is gravely injured. His divine bone is shattered; he’s in no condition to pose a threat to us. Judging by his state, it seems he’s been betrayed.”
In the Divine Realm, only those with great talent possess a divine bone. Losing it is like a mortal in the lower realms losing their spiritual root. The divine bone could reside in any part of the body, sometimes even within the skull.
For this man, the divine bone was in his right leg, now broken. It would likely leave him crippled for life.
“He’s still alive?” Xie Lingzhou’s voice trembled with disbelief.
How tenacious was this man’s life force, to survive such grievous wounds?
Lin Qi nodded slightly. “Though his aura is weak, he’s still alive. But his injuries are dire. Without treatment, he will not survive.”
Wen Yue asked, “Master, should we save him?”
Before Lin Qi could answer, the man in the pit seemed to sense figures looming over him. With great difficulty, he coughed up a mouthful of blood and mumbled, “Save… me…”
Seeing his indomitable will to live, Lin Qi made his decision. “We will save him.”
Xie Lingzhou immediately climbed down and carried the man out of the pit on his back.
Ji Chuxue directed, “Take him to the guest room on the east side.”
After cleansing the man with a purification spell, Xie Lingzhou gently laid him on the guest bed.
Wen Yue promptly followed, feeding him a healing pill and then channeling her powers into a healing spell, pouring all her effort into the rescue.
The treatment was agonizingly slow, lasting a full three hours.
Sweat beaded on Wen Yue’s forehead, her lips fading to pale as her strength waned.
Ji Chuxue stepped forward, gently wiping the sweat from Wen Yue’s brow. “Fourth Sister, rest for a while.”
Wen Yue, her spiritual energy nearly depleted, slowly withdrew her hand and said in exhaustion, “His injuries are too severe, and his body is riddled with several kinds of poison. The healing process will take a long time. But… I couldn’t mend his shattered divine bone.”
Lin Qi nodded in approval. “You’ve done well, Wen Yue. Mending a divine bone isn’t so easily accomplished. It requires divine-grade herbs. When he wakes, we’ll first ascertain his identity—see if he’s a friend or foe.”
The medical tomes, mechanical treatises, and sword manuals Lin Qi had given his disciples were all extraordinary, each brought from the Divine Realm. With his status, he naturally possessed herbs of divine grade, but he had no intention of using them lightly. After all, this man must still be watched…
“Yes, Master,” Wen Yue replied.
Ji Chuxue gazed at the deepening sunset and said softly, “Master, Third Brother, Fourth Sister, night is falling. You may return and rest. Since this man is staying in my courtyard, I’ll see to his care myself.”
“Very well, Chuxue. He’s in your hands.”
“Thank you for your hard work, Eldest Sister!”
“Eldest Sister, I’ll come tomorrow to continue his treatment.”
Lin Qi, Xie Lingzhou, and Wen Yue took their leave, each returning to their own quarters.
…
Divine Realm, Divine Eagle Pavilion.
“Boss, I saw it with my own eyes—he leapt from the Fallen God Platform,” came the low, solemn voice of Ghost, who had just returned from a mission.
Ghost’s face was always hidden behind a black mask; even within the Divine Eagle Pavilion, no one had ever seen his true appearance.
Silverwing, upon hearing his report, gave a cool order. “Ghost, you’ve just returned. Go and rest.”
“At your command.”
As Ghost’s voice faded, his figure dissolved like a wisp of smoke, vanishing without a trace, as if he had never been there at all.
Silverwing decided to visit the Hall of Light in person. The news Ghost brought would surely please the Hall’s master.
The Fallen God Platform—few survived a fall from there. Not even Silverwing himself could guarantee survival.
When Silverwing arrived in the grand hall of the Hall of Light, the master of the hall was instructing an elder with a white beard.
The elder responded respectfully, “Yes, Hall Master,” and withdrew.
The master of the Hall of Light glimpsed Silverwing, a glint of sharpness in his eyes. “What is it?”
Silverwing bowed and reported, “Ghost has returned. He reports that the Demon God’s Right Protector leapt from the Fallen God Platform.”
The Hall Master laughed heartily. “Ha ha ha ha! Excellent! This is truly good news. As long as his powerful aides are eliminated one by one, let’s see what disturbances he can still cause.
No, I want to make sure he never returns. This time, send more men. That wretch must be destroyed.”
“Yes, Hall Master.”
After receiving his orders, Silverwing vanished from the hall in a blur.
He returned to the Divine Eagle Pavilion and immediately summoned Snowhawk and Soulhunter to appear.
“Boss.”
“Boss.”
Snowhawk and Soulhunter appeared before Silverwing, one after the other.
Silverwing asked in a low voice, “Do you remember the target’s appearance?”
Snowhawk nodded. “Yes, boss, I remember it clearly.”
Soulhunter echoed, “I remember.”
Silverwing continued, “Have you discovered his identity in the lower realms?”
Snowhawk and Soulhunter exchanged glances; the last time they had left in such haste, there had been no time to investigate.
Snowhawk answered truthfully, “Boss, we do not yet know his true identity.”
A cold glint flashed in Silverwing’s eyes. “When the time is right, I’ll send you to the lower realms again. More will accompany you then. The Hall Master has decreed: he must be eradicated, root and branch.”
