Chapter 81 Godzilla
Osmanthus Pavilion.
Fan Jingwen and his four fellow disciples were lodging together in the same guest room.
“Junior Brother Fan, what do you think is going on tonight?”
Fan Jingwen frowned, his instincts telling him that something significant was about to happen. He replied in a low voice, “Senior Brother Zhao, I have a feeling tonight will be far from ordinary.”
“Should we look out the window? See if there’s anything unusual?”
“Junior Brother Zhao, aren’t you afraid that the moment you open the window, some evil thing will lock onto you?”
“Senior Brother Li, if you’re that timid, you’d best not mention you’re a disciple of the Purple Mist Sect.”
“That’s not cowardice, it’s caution.”
“Stop arguing, all of you. Aren’t you ashamed?” The speaker was Little Pot Ox, a straightforward spirit beast who always spoke his mind.
Fan Jingwen felt a bit embarrassed. “Xiaobao, mind your manners.”
Just then, the ground suddenly began to quake violently, as if some immense force was surging beneath the earth. A massive crack split the floor of their room, sending their hearts pounding in terror.
Screams pierced the air from the next room—the frightened cries of female disciples.
“What’s going on?” Senior Brother Zhao’s voice trembled with fear as he realized the situation was far graver than they’d imagined.
“Hurry, we must fly out of here on our swords—this place is no longer safe!”
Without a moment’s hesitation, Fan Jingwen drew his sword and leapt through the window, riding it into the night. The other male disciples followed close behind.
As they soared away from the collapsing room, the scene before them turned their blood cold. The female disciples next door also burst forth on their swords. Right beneath their eyes, the Osmanthus Pavilion crumbled in a thunderous crash, and the houses along the street began to collapse one after another.
The monsters who had been inside, their eyes suddenly regaining clarity, fled in terror, disbelief written on their faces.
Most of the demons on Dream Street possessed only weak demonic power and could not maintain flight for long. The ground began to cave in, splitting open in several places. A few bird demons spread their wings and took to the sky, but those without the gift of flight had to leap frantically to avoid the widening cracks.
“Ah! Save me!”
A diminutive rabbit demon, struck by the sudden disaster, had no time to react before a massive tail shot from the fissure and dragged it down. Its scream echoed in the air, stirring both pity and a chill of fear.
“Help! Please, take us with you! Let us fly with you!”
“Save us, please!”
The demons on the ground scattered in panic, crying out to the flying bird demons and cultivators overhead for help.
Suddenly, several more enormous tails burst from below, lashing wildly about as if searching for their next prey.
Jiang Yan and his companions had already taken to the air on their swords as soon as the ground began to shake. Among them, only Bai Tao, Xiaobai, and Black Flower could not fly on their own.
Seeing this, Qi Yu unhesitatingly swept Bai Tao onto his sword, while the small dragon carried Xiaobai and Black Flower securely on its back as it soared through the sky.
When they caught sight of the massive tails emerging from beneath the earth, everyone was dumbstruck.
Heavens! Could these colossal tails belong to Lady Fox-San? Wasn’t she already dead?
A mocking voice suddenly rang through the sky. “Ha! You want me dead? All of you will become my snacks!”
Everyone—cultivators and demons alike—looked up in unison. There, suspended among the clouds, loomed the enormous form of Lady Fox-San.
Jiang Yan stared up at the gargantuan fox demon, feeling as if he were witnessing a scene from a monster movie. Never did he expect to have such an experience in the world of cultivation; he wouldn’t even be a morsel between her teeth.
The demons on the ground were equally terrified—this was clearly their first time witnessing such a monstrous sight.
“That’s Lady Fox-San! How did she become so huge?”
“Did she sacrifice herself to gain such wicked power?”
“The fox clan is infamous for their cunning—she must have cultivated some sinister magic!”
“Bah! Vile creature. To think I was once enchanted by her beauty.”
“You and your lechery—it’s a wonder she didn’t eat you already.”
The bird demons flying overhead began chattering anxiously among themselves.
Hearing their chatter, Jiang Yan felt exasperated. Was now really the time for such discussion?
“Jiang Yan, so you’re here too.”
Suddenly, Fan Jingwen flew over to Jiang Yan on his sword.
“Brother, it’s been a while. Once we deal with this fox demon, let’s catch up,” Jiang Yan greeted him, then turned his attention back to the monstrous fox.
Other disciples of Azure Cloud Sect also rode their swords over to join them.
Lady Fox-San’s gaze swept over the crowd and finally landed on Jiang Yan. Her eyes instantly blazed scarlet with hatred and murderous rage. “It was you! You killed me! You deserve to die!”
Her shrill voice grated on Jiang Yan’s ears. He almost wanted to ask, “Sister, are you a ghost now?”
Her massive fox claw shot toward him.
“Everyone, be careful—fall back!” Jiang Yan shouted, dodging swiftly.
He quickly donned a protective cloak made from giant serpent skin, and affixed a mobile barrier talisman to himself.
It wasn’t enough. Not nearly enough.
Lady Fox-San was clearly much stronger now.
Jiang Yan recalled the Blue Power Fruit and Fire Flame Fruit. He quickly tossed several to Bai Tao and Fan Jingwen. “Everyone, eat two of the blue fruits; if you have a fire spirit root, take two of the red ones as well.”
With that, he swiftly swallowed two Blue Power Fruits and two Fire Flame Fruits himself.
Moving as nimbly as an eel, every time Lady Fox-San thought she had him, he managed to slip away in some miraculous fashion.
Enraged, she lashed out, scooping up innocent demons who failed to escape with her massive tails and swallowing them one by one.
The sound of her chewing echoed through the air, her teeth dripping with blood.
“A monster! She’s a monster!”
On the ground, the surviving demons screamed in terror, their cries piercing the night.
The bird demons in the sky could no longer remain calm. Trembling, their wings beat the air in frantic retreat, but they crashed into an invisible barrier and were mercilessly thrown back.
“Sister, are we going to die here?”
“Don’t lose hope—Jiang Yan is here. We must trust him. He’ll find a way.”
The speaker was Hua Ling’er of the Purple Mist Sect, who had secretly admired Jiang Yan since witnessing his elegance and handsome bearing at the sect’s recruitment competition.
