Chapter 89: You Will Return to Fengyang (1)
"Say it."
"All right, all right. Do you have to sound so stern? It came from my phone. Where else would it have come from?"
"Where are you?"
"Wherever Qiaoxi is, that’s where I am."
The moment he finished speaking, the other end cut off the call.
Listening to the dead tone, he laughed, a boyish look on his face. "Now this is getting interesting."
The whole afternoon, the class was buzzing with excitement. Even during lessons, students whispered to one another.
Some talked about Oya’s background; others about her relationship with Yufan.
Qiaoxi remained silent throughout.
Oya still did not come to class that afternoon. She had thought of calling him, but in the end she never pressed the button.
And now there was something else she had no choice but to face.
As the end of school drew nearer and nearer, she still did not know what to do.
She did not want to wait, yet Yufan had said he wanted her to wait for him after school.
The moment the bell rang, the teacher announced the end of class, and the students began filing out of the room.
Qiaoxi slowly packed away her books, and Dan Qiuchou had already come over.
"I wonder if Ernan has left. If he hasn’t, he’ll probably try to stop us on the way. We should rip him off good later!"
"You go on ahead. I’ve got something to do later," Qiaoxi said.
She had thought it through. Since the act had already gone this far, she could only keep it up.
Anyway, the whole school knew now. No amount of hesitation would help.
"What is it?" Dan Qiuchou asked, then immediately guessed it. Seeing that most of the students had left, she leaned closer and asked in a whisper, "You and the student council president... is it true?"
No sooner had she asked than someone’s ear was already leaning in.
Dan Qiuchou drew a black line. "Panxi, aren’t you being a little too much? Besides, I clearly didn’t see you just now. Where did you pop out from?"
"Heh, I was just crouching down to tie my shoelace," Gu Panxi replied with a smile, then looked at Qiaoxi. "I’m curious too. Don’t worry, I’m really tight-lipped. I definitely won’t tell anyone."
Qiaoxi looked at Dan Qiuchou.
Knowing she had spoken out of turn, Dan Qiuchou immediately pulled Gu Panxi along. "Stop gossiping. Let’s go."
Gu Panxi was dragged out of the classroom by her, still saying, "Everyone has curiosity, okay? And you’re the one who asked. If anyone’s gossiping, it should be you."
"That’s called concern."
"So is mine."
...
Watching them leave, Qiaoxi slung her bag over her shoulder as well.
When she reached the playground, she came to a stop instead, because only then did she suddenly realize that Yufan had told her to wait for him, not to go looking for him. He hadn’t even arranged a place to meet. She only had to wait somewhere for a while, and if he didn’t show up, she could leave.
Waiting in some inconspicuous corner felt deliberate, as though she were hiding on purpose. After thinking it over, she finally headed toward the school gate.
She would not go looking for him, nor would she deliberately avoid him. Then he would have nothing to say.
Tomorrow noon was the final deadline for the bet. She did not want to give him any excuse to keep pestering her.
At this time, the school gate was not crowded, so she spotted Guheng at a glance and froze in place.
She knew he would come looking for her. She had thought he would wait outside her grandmother’s house, but she had never expected him to come directly to the school.
Guheng spotted her the next second as well and immediately came toward her.
Because of his looks, and because he was not wearing the school uniform, he drew a great deal of attention.
Yet he seemed utterly unaware of it. The moment he reached Qiaoxi, he took her by the hand and led her away.
Qiaoxi followed him dazedly for a few steps before remembering to ask, "What are you doing?"
"Come back to Maplecrest with me." Guheng did not even look at her, but his tone was unmistakably commanding.
