Chapter 8: Is He Pursuing You? (4)
“Is that so? Well, maybe next time, then. Next time, I'll take you to the Seventh of July Bridge.”
“What is that? Such a peculiar name.”
“Oh, it's the place couples love the most. Qiao Xi, didn't you go there yesterday as well?” Xu Jia'er suddenly turned to Qiao Xi.
Cute in appearance and speaking with sincere innocence, Dan Chou Chou hadn't heard any other meaning to it, but still felt uncomfortable. Listening to this girl's words could give anyone goosebumps in moments.
“Forget it, I'm going for a nap.” She decisively left. After all, along the way Xu Jia'er had only familiarized them with the surroundings and hadn’t done much else. Besides, Qiao Xi was hardly an ordinary person! Having accompanied them this far, she felt she’d done more than enough.
“Chou Chou has finally left. Now I can chat with Sister Xi alone.” Xu Jia'er smiled sweetly, her gaze fixed on Qiao Xi. “Sister Xi, you met Brother Ya twice yesterday. That’s not good.” She looked troubled. “I really don’t like it. I’m not happy at all. Sister Xi, you won’t make me unhappy, will you?”
Qiao Xi listened without much reaction and replied, “It was just a coincidence.”
“So, Sister Xi wouldn’t actively approach Brother Ya?”
“No.”
“That’s wonderful. I knew you were the best, Sister Xi.” Xu Jia'er took Qiao Xi’s hand, beaming with joy. “It’s really great to know you.”
Looking down from the student council office window, their figures could be seen in the distance.
Ji Niansheng, who had always had excellent eyesight, recognized them instantly. He turned to Ouyang Ya, who was still absorbed in student council paperwork, and commented idly, “It seems even the new transfer girls won’t dare get close to you in the future.”
Ouyang Ya heard him and understood, but made no response.
Ji Niansheng leaned closer, arms crossed on the desk, and asked Ouyang Ya, “Hey, are you actually interested in her?”
“If you’re so bored, go study. Your score on this English test was nine.” Ouyang Ya didn’t even look up.
“No help for it—all the English words know me, but I don’t know them.” Ji Niansheng sighed helplessly, then returned to the previous topic, “Don’t change the subject. If you’re interested, just admit it—there’s nothing shameful about it. Are you afraid someone else will beat you to it? You’re not that insecure. Besides, it doesn’t seem like anyone’s competing with you right now.”
Ouyang Ya slowly lifted his head, a hint of a smile appearing on his gentle features. “I never said you couldn’t pursue her.”
“Don’t start. You know I’m terrified of joining the student council as the sports department head. If I say I want to chase after Qiao Xi, you immediately declare that regardless of whether I succeed, you’ll put me in there. Isn’t that just stopping me? You think just because my grades are bad, I can’t figure it out?”
Ji Niansheng was confident in his intelligence—he just didn’t like studying.
“Is that so?” Ouyang Ya smiled faintly and lowered his head to continue working.
“I’m off to play baseball. You can keep handling Yu Fan’s student council affairs.” Ji Niansheng waved dismissively as he turned away.
――――――
“Is it really convenient living with your grandmother? Why not move out and live with me? I feel so lonely living alone.” Dan Chou Chou’s home wasn’t here; after transferring schools, she really didn’t want to live in the dorm, so she rented a place nearby. It was close to where Qiao Xi lived, so they went to school together.
“You’ll get used to it eventually,” Qiao Xi replied calmly.
