Chapter 104: I Am Not That Kind of Person
"What?" Wang Qi asked, stunned, barely able to believe her ears as she struggled to process what she had just heard.
"You aren't selling this house? If not, we'll go take a look elsewhere!" Zhang Can said with a faint smile.
"Sell! Sell! Sell!" Wang Qi’s face flushed a deep red. She had never expected that Zhang Can would actually buy this house, let alone pay in full. If she sold this property at this price, her commission would be one percent of the total—a staggering 323,000 yuan. Selling just this one house would earn her more than a year of hard labor.
Zhu Senlin knew Zhang Can could afford it, but he hadn't been certain he would actually pull the trigger. Seeing Zhang Can commit to the purchase, he was overjoyed. His face beamed with a wide smile; after all, Zhang Can had a massive influence on him, and he viewed the young man as his personal god of wealth. Zhang Can settling down in Jincheng would bring him immeasurable benefits.
Wang Qi now appeared somewhat flustered, her face still flushed as she respectfully led Zhang Can’s group downstairs, ushered them into the car, and drove back to the sales center.
In the lobby, the dozen or so sales agents, upon hearing that one of the six top-tier model homes had been sold, looked at Wang Qi with a mix of envy and jealousy. When the family first arrived, none of the agents had paid much attention, and those who did had only gone through the motions perfunctorily. It was just Wang Qi’s luck to have been the one to greet Zhang Can. A commission of over 300,000 yuan!
However, until the money was transferred, the deal wasn't finalized.
Once Zhang Can made up his mind, he didn't hesitate. He took out his bank card and swiped it directly for 32.3 million yuan. He didn't blink, and he didn't owe a cent. Such boldness left the sales agents and the manager visibly shaken.
Liu Xiaoqin, her sister Liu Xiaoli, and their parents were completely stunned, unable to utter a single word. They would have been perfectly satisfied with a small apartment in the suburbs of Jincheng for 400,000 or 500,000 yuan. They never dreamed that Zhang Can would buy the finest, most expensive house in the entire city. It left them speechless, unable to offer any advice or objection, because in their eyes, Zhang Can no longer required guidance. He radiated the aura of a king; it seemed as if nothing in the world could pose a challenge to him.
Wang Qi and the sales manager, Zhang Xiaojing, handled the paperwork together. Since it was such a large transaction and the first sale of a model home—most buyers preferred "bare-shell" units to save nearly 20,000 yuan per square meter on renovations—it was a significant event.
Zhang Can, however, was different. He found earning money easy and considered renovations a tedious chore. He was a man who hated trouble; paying to save time was the best approach. Besides, he could move in immediately, which beat waiting several months for renovations to finish.
Once Wang Qi finished most of the paperwork, Manager Zhang Xiaojing personally brought the keys to Zhang Can, beaming as she said, "Mr. Zhang, here are your bank card, ID, and the keys to your home. Please keep them safe."
Zhang Can took them, handed the keys to Liu Xiaoqin, and tucked his card and ID into his pocket.
Zhang Xiaojing added, "Also, Mr. Zhang, your property deed will take about three months to process because of the procedures at the Real Estate Administration Bureau. It involves some tedious steps, so it takes a bit of time."
Zhang Can waved his hand dismissively. "Just let me know when it's done. Also, I’ll be living there from now on. You share my surname, Zhang, and I’m young, so don't be so formal with the 'sir' and 'you'—it sounds awkward!"
Zhang Xiaojing giggled and seized the opening. "Alright! We share the same character, after all. Five hundred years ago, we were one family. In that case, I won't stand on ceremony. I'll call you Little Zhang. You're twenty-five, two years younger than me, so I can be your older sister!"
Zhang Can smiled faintly. With Liu Xiaoqin and her family present, he didn't feel like joking around with Zhang Xiaojing further. He turned to Zhu Senlin and said, "Old Zhu, let's head back. My family is going to the supermarket to shop; we're moving in today. We don't have much at the old place besides clothes, so there's no need to hire a moving company."
Zhu Senlin realized he was right. Since the previous place was a rental, it already came furnished, and their belongings were mostly just clothes. The new house, however, was fully equipped with everything from bedding and kitchenware to furniture, appliances, and air conditioning.
On the way back, Zhang Can said to Zhu Senlin, "Old Zhu, it looks like I won't be able to make it to the shop today. Since things are quiet, you should head back. You have wide connections—place an ad and hire an expert appraiser. Otherwise, the shop will never be able to function without me."
Zhu Senlin nodded with a smile. "Fair enough. I’ve been thinking about it, but I was waiting for your input. I’ve realized that whenever you aren't there, if something truly valuable comes in, the other masters in the shop likely won't be able to spot it. Anything they do is just for show."
Zhang Can chuckled and waved it off without saying anything. He knew Zhu wasn't just flattering him. Over this long period, he had seen enough; anyone with eyes could see that Zhang Can’s appraisal skills were far beyond those of the average master. While they couldn't see the specific supernatural element, everyone sensed that Zhang Can’s judgment was sharper and more meticulous than anyone else’s.
Meanwhile, Liu Dongsheng and Chen Huiyu sat in the back with Liu Xiaoli, while Liu Xiaoqin sat beside Zhang Can. The whole family was buzzing with excitement. Even Zhang Can felt a surge of adrenaline; once they left the Di Jing Yuan sales center, he felt a strange, burning heat on his face. It felt surreal—he was now a property owner, and a significant one at that!
Zhang Can dropped the Liu family off at a large new supermarket near Di Jing Yuan so they could shop, while he drove back to Tianxin Square to retrieve their belongings. Before leaving, he instructed Liu Xiaoqin, "Xiaoqin, buy the best. Don't worry about the money."
Liu Xiaoqin nodded and said, "You don't need to come back for us. We'll find a vehicle to haul the things back ourselves. You go take care of your business."
Zhang Can waved and drove off. When he arrived at Tianxin Square, he parked and headed up to the seventeenth floor. As the elevator doors opened, he saw a girl standing at his door. She had long hair cascading over her shoulders and a slender frame, but she kept her head bowed.
Thinking it was Su Xue, Zhang Can hesitated, his heart sinking. That woman was truly difficult to deal with, especially when alone. He had to be extremely careful; she would actually hit people, and in a fight, he was no match for her. Even as a man, he couldn't beat her. Crossing her was like "lighting a lantern in an outhouse—looking for trouble."
"Zhang Can, you... you're back?"
The girl looked up, her face lighting up with joy the moment she saw him. It wasn't Su Xue, but Zhou Nan!
Zhang Can couldn't help but frown. Zhou Nan was the undisputed princess of Jincheng. While she wasn't as wild as Su Xue, he did have genuine feelings for her, born from the life-or-death ordeal they had shared in the mountains. In those critical moments, she hadn't abandoned him, and he hadn't left her behind; they had truly forged a bond. But once back in the mundane world, the unbridgeable distance between them became clear. Especially after her father’s secretary had intervened, Zhang Can realized he couldn't—and shouldn't—pursue a relationship with her. He had decided to cut those ties completely.
Caught off guard, Zhang Can asked, "You... why are you here again?"
"Can't I come here?" Zhou Nan asked softly. She bit her lip and glanced behind him. Seeing no one, she asked, "Where is... Liu Xiaoqin?"
Zhang Can hesitated but decided to be honest. "I bought a new house in the South District. I sent Xiaoqin and her family to buy supplies, and I came back to pack my clothes. I'm moving."
Zhou Nan froze. The sweetness in Zhang Can’s voice when he mentioned Liu Xiaoqin was hard for her to swallow. After a moment, she gritted her teeth and said, "Zhang Can, I really don't understand. Why don't you like me?"
Under the weight of her suffering, Zhou Nan stopped holding back. She asked the question that had been buried in her heart for so long.
Zhang Can hadn't expected her to be so blunt, and he was left stammering for a long time. "You are so beautiful, naturally... naturally there will be more, better, and more suitable people for you... I..."
"Don't give me that nonsense!" Zhou Nan interrupted, her face darkening. "And don't make excuses. I felt it—on the mountain, you were sincere. You risked your own life to save me, you refused to leave me behind. If you didn't like me, would you have done that?"
Zhang Can paused, then gave a silly, helpless smile. "You're so beautiful, anyone would have done the same!"
Zhou Nan bit her lip, staring at him as if she wanted to devour him. "I know I'm beautiful, you don't need to remind me! I know many people would like me, but to trade their own lives for mine? I don't believe a single one of them would!"
Zhang Can sighed, feeling trapped. "Zhou Nan, if that's what you think, you're wrong. You’re a highly educated student from abroad, and I’m just a common boy from the countryside. We aren't from the same world. If you think you have feelings for me, I believe it's only because of what happened on the mountain—it's just gratitude. But don't you see? I’m just as grateful to you. If you hadn't risked your life to save me, I would have died too. So... Zhou Nan, I believe we are both just feeling mutual gratitude. Let's just be good friends."
Zhou Nan’s eyes turned red. She stared at him in silence, tears welling up, making Zhang Can feel increasingly uneasy.
"You... you took my first kiss. I’m not that kind of person!"
She gritted her teeth, spitting out the words one by one. All shyness and fear had vanished, replaced by a fierce, intense glare fixed upon him.
