Chapter 17: The Cat Who Steals Fish
Sang Yu pushed the door open and happened to see Song Zhenhua handing money to Song Jiajia.
Jiang Jingming, watching his hand being released, looked somewhat dazed until Sang Yu’s voice rang out: “Uncle, didn’t you say there was no money at home?”
She stared at Song Zhenhua in disbelief, as if he were a heartless man.
Chen Jinlan was about to curse loudly but suddenly caught Jiang Jingming’s cold, warning gaze and immediately dared not speak.
The money in Song Zhenhua’s hand suddenly felt like a hot potato.
If it were just Sang Yu, it would be one thing, but behind her stood Jiang Jingming.
Judging from his attitude on the day of the wedding, Jiang Jingming seemed to care quite a bit about this stubborn girl Sang Yu.
“小榆, this…” Song Jiajia said.
“What does it have to do with you? This money is all for Brother Lu’s business,” Song Jiajia snapped.
Business?
She recalled that in the previous life, Lu Hao’s fortune was entirely because of the original owner.
It was the original owner who, on her way to buy vegetables one day, encountered an old man who had fallen and couldn’t get up.
No one around dared to help him.
Although the original owner was timid, she was kind-hearted and took the man to the hospital, only leaving after his family arrived.
That day, when the original owner returned home, Lu Hao’s grandparents scolded her.
Lu Ting sarcastically accused her of going out to steal men.
Lu Hao was furious and slapped her.
Later, the old man’s family came with a sum of money to thank Sang Yu.
Only then did they realize they had misunderstood her; everyone else treated Sang Yu kindly that day.
Only Sang Yu felt awkward because she didn’t help for money.
But that day, Lu Hao’s grandparents practically glued their eyes to that bag of money.
Later, Lu Hao took this opportunity to meet that man and went into business with him.
In the end, they made a fortune.
How this life would unfold, whether Song Jiajia would help that old man, was unknown.
Judging by Song Jiajia’s current attitude, she seemed unaware of that incident.
Of course, if she, like the original owner, went to the market every day, there might still be a chance.
But she felt such a good opportunity definitely shouldn’t be given to Song Jiajia.
If she remembered correctly, Lu Hao’s previous business was in the clothing trade.
---
She had always liked designing clothes and dreamed of being a designer, but unfortunately, never realized that dream.
Maybe here, she could make it come true.
Her mind raced with endless possibilities.
Sang Yu suddenly wiped away tears: “Uncle, yesterday Jiang and I went to buy some things for after the wedding and have nearly spent all the money. You know Jiang is just a policeman; his salary isn’t much. In a few days, we have to visit his family and really don’t have any money left. If possible, could you lend me a little more?”
Song Zhenhua nearly spat blood in anger. This money was originally his.
But this wretched girl insisted on writing an IOU, and now she’s taken the money without even asking for a loan—she’s treating it like a repayment.
Making him look like he owed her.
Damn it.
Song Jiajia said, “Sang Yu, keep dreaming. This money is for Brother Lu.”
She snatched the money from Song Zhenhua’s hand.
Song Zhenhua made no move to stop her; with the money no longer in his hand, that brat Sang Yu was powerless.
Sang Yu wiped her tears again, “It’s okay, then I’ll borrow some from the neighbors.”
“Wait!” Chen Jinlan and Song Zhenhua said in unison.
Chen Jinlan: If those women find out Sang Yu is borrowing money from them, they’ll make fun of her till she dies.
Song Zhenhua: If people knew I let Sang Yu borrow money, wouldn’t all my years of effort be wasted?
Besides, it could cause problems for the factory.
Song Zhenhua gritted his teeth; this brat Sang Yu had really changed.
Could it be that all her previous behavior was just an act?
Now, who gave her this confidence? Could it be Jiang Jingming?
Jiang Jingming stood silently behind Sang Yu, but his presence alone exuded a heavy pressure.
Song Zhenhua said, “Give her two hundred.”
Before Song Jiajia could refuse, Sang Yu said, “Uncle, two hundred might not be enough. After buying appliances yesterday, we have no money left. Jiang’s salary this month is also spent. Besides buying gifts for the elders, we have to live until next month when Jiang gets paid.”
If Song Zhenhua gave all the money to Lu Hao, it would probably be squandered.
So Sang Yu was determined to ask for as much as possible.
Hearing her words, Song Zhenhua choked on a mouthful of old blood.
Song Jiajia retorted, “Sang Yu, stop talking nonsense. I saw you buy clothes at the mall yesterday!”
---
Sang Yu blinked innocently: “Yes, I didn’t have any decent clothes. I couldn’t possibly visit the elders wearing my cousin’s old clothes, could I?”
Song Zhenhua growled, “Jiajia, give your cousin five hundred!”
The tone was gritted and bitter.
Five hundred was acceptable; any more and Song Zhenhua might die of anger.
Song Jiajia clenched the money tightly: “Dad…”
“Give it!” Song Zhenhua slammed his hand on the table.
Song Jiajia trembled but then angrily counted out five hundred from the big wad of cash, glaring fiercely at Sang Yu.
Sang Yu took the money, smiling: “Thank you, Uncle. I knew you were always the best to me.”
“Aunt hasn’t cooked yet? Then we won’t eat at home. Jiang and I will go buy gifts for relatives first. Goodbye, Uncle and Aunt.”
She turned to leave but stopped at the door, looking back at the twisted face of Song Jiajia.
“Cousin, when your husband’s business succeeds, remember to repay me.”
Then she vanished completely through the doorway.
Song Zhenhua could no longer hold back and grabbed a cup from the table, smashing it to pieces.
The cup shattered into fragments.
Chen Jinlan ground her teeth and said, “That bitch, she’s even scheming against us now! She came empty-handed and still conned five hundred!”
Song Jiajia was more certain than ever that Sang Yu had changed. She used to be so timid!
How could she dare ask them for money like this?
Downstairs, Sang Yu got into the car, clutching the wad of cash.
“Let’s go. I’ll treat you to a feast!” Sang Yu smiled brightly at Jiang Jingming in the driver’s seat, her expression as proud as a cat that had just gotten away with stealing cream.
No wonder she hadn’t brought the return-gift she bought yesterday.
Jiang Jingming looked at Sang Yu with a tenderness even he hadn’t noticed before: “Alright.”
Sang Yu looked at the money in her hand. Indeed, money was good.
Though getting the remaining two thousand back would probably be tough.
