Fu Juxing approached so quietly that Yang Ruyue didn’t even notice until Han Chen suddenly stood up, bumped into the coffee table, and knocked over a teacup. Only then did she snap back to her senses and become aware of the person standing beside him.

Fu Juxing offered Han Chen a friendly hand. “Careful, there’s no need to be nervous.”

Han Chen drew his hand back. Though the man smiled, he didn’t seem as friendly as he appeared. Han Chen took a step back, lowered his gaze, thanked him, and kept his distance.

The slight commotion quickly caught Lin Wanbai’s attention.

She turned her head and immediately spotted Fu Juxing. She didn’t move, but her irritation showed as she muttered under her breath, “All the people Lin Zhouye finds are useless.”

“You know, Han Chen actually does resemble Fu Juxing a bit, especially with that brooding air about him. Of all the cheerful, sunny boys out there, why do you only like the gloomy types?”

Lin Wanbai ignored her and simply said, “Take Han Chen to your room and make sure you have a suit ready for him for the banquet tonight.”

“Got it.” Liang Zhixia straightened up and walked over with a bright smile, brushing past Fu Juxing as she went.

She took Han Chen away, leaving Yang Ruyue to assist Lin Wanbai.

Fu Juxing asked, “Have you looked at the evening dress?”

“You came all the way from the hospital just for that?” The makeup artist was working on her eyes, so she kept her gaze lowered and her tone indifferent.

“It’s your birthday banquet tonight. I don’t trust anyone else with it.”

“It’s just a birthday party. There’s nothing to worry about.”

Yang Ruyue brought over a chair and set it behind him. Fu Juxing sat down, but the movement pulled at his wound, and pain flared.

He drew a sharp breath, his brow twitching slightly.

At that moment, Lin Wanbai looked over and caught his expression.

“Go back to the hospital,” she said seriously.

“I’ll go after your birthday.”

She stared at him for a long while before asking, “Do you want to make me angry?”

“Wanbai...”

Suppressing her temper, she said, “I don’t need you to do all this. You’ve already given me the best birthday present. I know you planned this whole banquet yourself. Since we married, you’ve never missed a single one of my birthdays—I know your heart is in the right place, and that’s enough for me.”

She smiled softly and took his hand. “If you really want to make me happy, stay in the hospital and do as the doctors say. I’ll take care of everything here, so don’t worry.”

Fu Juxing said nothing, his face pale from the pain, a fine sheen of sweat on his forehead.

He simply sat in the chair, watching her put on makeup, showing no intention of leaving.

Lin Wanbai didn’t bother arguing further.

Because of what had happened, Lin Zhaowei arrived early at the resort and ran into Lin Jingyu and her husband. Lin Zhouye led them to Lin Wanbai’s dressing room. As soon as they saw her, the three gathered around, scrutinizing her, their eyes lingering on the bandage around her arm.

Lin Jingyu’s eyes reddened. “Look at what you’ve suffered. Does it hurt?”

“Mom, it’s just a scratch. Don’t make a fuss.”

“How can I not? I saw the video online—those people are insane, even splashing acid. It scared me half to death.” Lin Jingyu was genuinely frightened; recalling the scene, her face turned pale.

Their one and only precious daughter, naturally cherished beyond compare.

Seeing that she was safe, Lin Zhaowei finally relaxed.

With Fu Juxing not present, Lin Jingyu couldn’t help but complain, “It’s all Fu Juxing’s fault. If not for him, our daughter wouldn’t have had to suffer like this.”

“How is it his fault?”

“It’s got everything to do with him.”

Lin Zhaowei snorted, “You’re in no position to talk. If you hadn’t helped back then, she might never have married Fu Juxing.”

Lin Zhouye sided with the old man. “Dad’s right. Sis, this really is your fault.”

Chen Songyuan put his arm around Lin Jingyu and laughed, “We just love our daughter. Family should marry who they want, otherwise life would be so bitter.”

Lin Wanbai sat quietly in the middle as the family bantered. She looked at the jewelry on the table, pondering which set would best suit her for the evening.

The atmosphere in the dressing room was warm and affectionate.

Fu Juxing stood silently at the doorway, his face devoid of a smile, his gaze deep as he watched everything inside.

Lin Wanbai had grown up in such a loving home, cherished by everyone, never lacking for affection.

Her life had always been smooth, without obstacles or injustice.

Truly, a life to be envied.
