Volume 1, Chapter 43: The Good Show Begins 2
Luo Qian'er stepped forward to block Ling Qin, having roughly figured out why Ling Qin wanted to drown herself from their conversation. To be held in the arms of the man she loved, only to be disbelieved and even almost killed by his own hands—no wonder Lan Xi chose to end her life in the lake.
Thinking that what her disciple said was not entirely unreasonable, Bai Yujie reflected that even if that person wouldn't say anything, there was no guarantee that the other senior and junior brothers wouldn't gossip about this matter.
In a short while, we reached the outer wall of the White Cloud Taoist Temple. The wall was not very high, and without any hooks or ropes, we simply vaulted right over it. Looking around at the quiet surroundings, I called out to Lao Liu, and together we jumped down.
For this operation, Chang Le had gone to great pains. In addition to a few personal guards, he had brought along the two major combat powerhouses Xiangxiang and Lin Yan, Liao Feng the berserker, Ren Hanyin equipped with a turtle-shell defense, and Zhao Liang who possessed a fart-shield and astonishing speed.
At this moment, the main lights in the presidential suite were turned off, and the dim blue glow of the wall lamps filled the entire bedroom with a hazy and ambiguous atmosphere.
"Th-th-that..." Zhao Liang stammered for a long time without making any coherent point. He was simply unwilling to accept the situation, yet had no idea what to do.
This seemed to stir up a thousand ripples with a single stone. Seeing this, Zhou Qihuai and Linghujue immediately rushed forward without a second word.
"Reporting to the Empress, Consort Lan, and the Seventh Princess, this subordinate has discovered clues regarding the Emperor being poisoned," Wu Tie said, kneeling on the ground.
"Shen, Yun, Xi!" Feng Qingchen let out another low roar, still furious over the scenario he had just imagined in his mind.
"Old Director, I'm here. When are we leaving?" Zhang Yifeng shouted at the top of his lungs the moment he stepped into the orphanage, as if afraid the old director wouldn't hear him.
"Fang Zheng, you loser, get lost right now, or I'll finish you off!" a youth in luxurious attire walked over, glaring at him viciously.
Gazing through the flickering firelight at Xiuer's hazy profile, Zhang Dahai felt somewhat intoxicated. He stared with red, swollen eyes, his distant gaze seemingly shimmering along with the light.
During class the next day, I noticed Pang Long looking quite unhappy. What was going on? I decided to go over and ask him.
"Confess your crimes one by one. If anything is omitted, your fate will be the same as Sun Ergou's," Xia Fan said, sitting leisurely in his chair with an air of nonchalance.
The Evil Soul and the Sacred Heart cried out in simultaneous exclamation, their tones filled with utter shock, as if they had witnessed something completely unimaginable.
I nodded and said nothing more. Since I now knew, I would head back to CZ City. All the way back, I kept wondering: whose person was Left Spider anyway? Why did he know so much?
Perhaps having spent too much time with Qu Qingran, Xu Qingrang's speaking style had become somewhat similar to hers, constantly blurting out brutally honest truths.
Technology was truly advanced nowadays. The mobile phone I used before was one of those old button-pad models, but now they were all touchscreens of every imaginable variety, full of high-tech charm.
The expressions of the medical staff and the chief physician mirrored each other—the hope that had just been ignited was instantly extinguished like a basin of cold water poured over them, leaving their faces ashen with despair.
"I know you have great skills in finding people, but you should go back. Carrying such a huge thing around is very inconvenient," Luo Xi pushed him gently.
The hundred thousand elite troops led by Xuanyuan Tingye this expedition were the most formidable forces within the Helan Kingdom. Rumors had it that such a force of one hundred thousand could rival three hundred thousand ordinary elite soldiers.
Huang Shilai swallowed subconsciously, then immediately put on an obedient, innocent look and remained silent.
"We received a call from the shareholders saying that a shareholders' meeting is to be held today. Could Young Master Tong not know about this?" the shareholders asked with puzzled expressions.
Seeming to sense Lin Hanxi's stillness, the man gradually relaxed the hand covering her mouth. As his hand dropped, it inadvertently brushed against Lin Hanxi's chest, causing her to freeze instantly. At the same time, she could feel the man's body in front of her visibly stiffen.
Her hair fell loose over her shoulders, and her face, which had previously been bare of any cosmetics, was now adorned with delicate, light makeup, her fingernails polished to a vibrant red.
Sha Man had been taking blood-thirst grass for four hundred years, and her body had already developed a biological dependency on the drug. If deprived of it for too long, she would inevitably suffer agonizing torment.
A sharp pain pierced through Xuanyuan Tingye's heart. Yes, it was he who had personally severed the relationship between him and A-Li; it was he who had agreed to let her leave; and it was he who had ultimately let go of her hands.
At this moment, Bai Xue was tightly embraced by Wu Meng, rendering her almost completely immobile and utterly incapable of dodging.
Inside the inner office, Han Shuer leaned back against her swivel chair with her eyes closed, deep in thought.
Some irrational individuals had already cast suspicious glances at Xue Yun, believing he was deeply complicit, in league with the opposing party and bought off by them.
Without a second thought, Li Nan picked up a fire extinguisher and weighed it in his hand. The weight was decent, making it quite a serviceable weapon.
The Wanderer had already secured his qualification for the top five. Having fought his way to this point, even if the final ranking matches yielded no surprising upsets, the ultimate focus would still rest upon securing fifth place.
Gritting his teeth, the fat man tried to kick up the submachine gun with one foot. However, with his upper body bearing weight and his single foot losing balance, just as he was about to flip the weapon up, he took a comical dog-paddle tumble and crashed straight to the floor.
Due to the power outage, the temperature inside the morgue suddenly spiked. This minor detail caused a great deal of misery for the dozen or so tough men; anticipating the cold underground morgue, they had all dressed in heavy winter clothing, and now they felt as though they were being baked alive.
"Since you insist on apologizing, come with me then." Without another word, the man grabbed Han Shuer's hand and bolted out of the coffee shop.
Not only were the Lu family's grain shop and the Mei family's silk shop draped in white funeral flowers, but along both banks of the Lei River, every single apothecary, grocery store, and inn also had white mourning strips tied to their doorways.
With tears streaming down her face, Han Lianyi stepped forward to pull Lian Shuo's hand, only to be ruthlessly brushed aside. Her younger brother's heart was truly set on leaving. A weight like a thousand boulders pressed upon her chest; she wanted to speak, but the words died on her lips.
Li Nan was well aware of how terrifying the large-headed flies were, and since he had no time to launch another counterattack, his figure flickered as he rolled to the side in a desperate attempt to evade the creature.
"It seems you have exhausted all your options and have no trump cards left," Wuchin observed coldly, gazing at the hideous Betelgeuse, whose expression resembled that of someone seeking mutual destruction. Only a cornered beast facing certain doom would ever wear such a frantic look.
"You can still control the ghosts inside the ring?" I asked in astonishment. Boss Cheng nodded. "They can be controlled, but you must never do so. Remember that, always..." With those words, he closed his eyes and said no more.
