Framed and Imprisoned, A Desperate Wait for a Turning Point
This group of ability users came with aggressive momentum, like a pack of starving wolves eyeing their prey.
Without a word, they brutally twisted Mao Yu's arms and dragged him away as if escorting a criminal.
"Let me go! You've got the wrong person! I'm innocent!" Mao Yu struggled fiercely, but outnumbered, his voice was drowned out in the clamor of the crowd.
Along the way, Mao Yu kept explaining, trying to prove his innocence, but was met only with cold and suspicious gazes.
He felt like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered, pushed toward an abyss by an invisible force.
The cold iron door slammed shut with a heavy clang, and Mao Yu was shoved violently into the cell.
The cramped space was damp and reeked of mildew; the light was dim, and the walls were cold and rough.
He looked around, his heart filled with anger and resentment.
"What the hell is this! I am the champion of the Ability Championship, yet I'm locked up in a dump like this!" He struck the wall hard, producing a muffled thud.
The prison guard in the cell, Officer Chen, was a burly man with a stern expression. He looked Mao Yu up and down and said, "New here? Behave yourself and don't try any tricks!"
Officer Chen was extremely harsh on Mao Yu, granting him no special treatment whatsoever.
Every movement of Mao Yu was strictly restricted. He felt as though he had lost his freedom, and this sense of confinement caused him deep inner anguish.
He lay on the cold, hard wooden bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall sleep.
The air in the cell was stiflingly heavy, as if an invisible giant hand were gripping his throat.
Suddenly, a cold voice rang in Mao Yu's ear: "System prompt: Host's predicament detected. Activating emergency mission — Prison Break Plan..."
Mao Yu sat up abruptly.
"Officer Chen, I want to—"
Before Mao Yu could finish, Officer Chen thrust his expressionless face right toward him, his tone as cold and hard as icicles: "Want what? Don't think you can get special treatment just because you're in here. Lie down and behave!" With that, he slammed the cell's iron door shut with a loud bang, the harsh metallic echo reverberating down the entire corridor.
Mao Yu rolled his eyes in speechlessness, thinking this guard was truly a thick-headed blockhead who cut him off before he could even say a word.
This damned place made one not want to stay even a second longer.
He simply lay back down on the bed and began to ponder the system's previous prompt. A prison break plan?
That sounded thrilling!
Just as he was about to delve deeper into it, a series of hurried footsteps approached from afar, shattering the tranquility of the cell.
Immediately afterward, a familiar voice called out, "Mao Yu! Are you in there?"
Mao Yu sat up sharply and, through the iron bars of the cell, saw Feng Yao standing there with an anxious look on her face.
Her meticulously styled hair was somewhat disheveled, and her delicate makeup could not conceal the fatigue in her eyes.
Seeing Mao Yu, her eyes instantly turned red, and her tone carried deep concern: "You... how are you? Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine, it's just that this place is damp as a sewer," Mao Yu shrugged with feigned nonchalance, not wanting her to worry.
Seeing him act this way, Feng Yao's heart ached profoundly. A sour lump rose in her throat, and she almost burst into tears. Stifling a sob, she managed to say, "I heard about it. Someone must have framed you. Don't worry, I will definitely find a way to get you out!" She pulled some items from her bag, handed them to the guard, and said gently to Mao Yu, "I pulled some strings to get these for you. Take them, don't wrong yourself!"
Mao Yu accepted the items; they were some food and a book.
Though the items were few, Feng Yao's thoughtfulness warmed his heart, and a smile unconsciously surfaced on his face as an ambiguous atmosphere quietly arose between them.
"Right, how is the situation outside right now?" Mao Yu asked eagerly.
"Public opinion is currently very unfavorable to you," Feng Yao said, her delicate brows furrowing. "That reporter Wang distorted the truth and painted you as a villain who abused his abilities. Many people believe him, and also..." She trailed off, seemingly reluctant to continue.
At that moment, another set of footsteps sounded, this time noticeably lighter and quicker.
A somewhat spoiled and petulant voice rang out: "Brother Yu! I've come to see you!"
Mao Ling skipped up outside the cell, holding a large insulated food jar in her hands.
However, when she saw the subtle atmosphere between Feng Yao and Mao Yu, the smile on her face vanished instantly.
Puffing out her cheeks with a hint of displeasure in her eyes, she dropped the insulated jar onto the floor, let out a cold snort, and turned away.
Mao Yu was somewhat bewildered. What was wrong with this young girl?
Usually, she clung to him constantly; today, she left without even saying hello?
This script was all wrong!
"Ling'er? What's wrong with you?"
Mao Ling didn't even look back, leaving him with only a stubborn retreating figure.
Mao Yu wore a face full of question marks and was just about to ask Feng Yao when he noticed that Feng Yao was also looking in the direction where Mao Ling had left, deep in thought.
"Officer Chen, I want to—" Mao Yu muttered.
Mao Yu had no time to ponder the young girl's inexplicableness. He felt a surge of power stirring within his body—a power stemming from the "Prison Break Plan" issued by the system.
He sat cross-legged on the bed, closed his eyes, and began a "soul dialogue" with the system.
A 3D layout of the cell appeared in his mind, marked with a red dot that blinked with an eerie light.
"Hey! System, what is this red dot? Could it be the legendary 'dog hole'?" Mao Yu couldn't help but make a sarcastic remark. Of course, the system did not answer him.
Following the system's instructions, he groped his way to the corner of the cell.
The wall here looked flat, but touching it revealed something unusual.
With a firm push, the wall actually caved inward, revealing a pitch-black opening.
A blast of cold air rushed out from the hole, carrying a hint of fresh air.
"Holy crap! Even this works? This system is way too awesome!"
Mao Yu rubbed his hands in excitement. This was undoubtedly a "green channel" for jailbreak!
He rubbed his hands eagerly and was about to crawl in when suddenly, the cell's iron door was kicked open with a loud crash.
Officer Chen's expressionless face appeared at the entrance, holding a glowing police baton that gleamed coldly.
"Kid, what the hell are you doing?" Officer Chen roared, his face filled with disbelief, clearly not expecting this newcomer to dare make trouble in the cell.
Seeing this, Mao Yu mentally cursed, "Not good," but it was already too late to back down.
Deciding to go all out, he charged straight forward and swept a whip kick toward Officer Chen.
Officer Chen was no pushover either; he swung his baton and smashed it fiercely at Mao Yu.
The two engaged in a fierce brawl within the cramped cell.
The whistling of the baton cutting through the air, the thud of colliding fists, and the muffled thumps of bodies hitting the ground intertwined.
Relying on his own abilities and the system's assistance, Mao Yu was exceptionally agile. He darted around Officer Chen like a leopard, every attack precise and lethal.
With a loud "Bang!", Officer Chen's baton was kicked away by Mao Yu, and Chen himself collapsed like a kite with a broken string, clutching his chest and groaning in agony.
The other inmates in the cell were completely dumbfounded. They hadn't expected this newcomer to be so ferocious as to take down a prison guard!
Whispers immediately broke out all around, and everyone cast awe-filled glances at Mao Yu.
Mao Yu dusted off his hands, whistled triumphantly, and without looking back, plunged into the hole in the wall, disappearing into the darkness.
Prison break successful!
He ran wildly all the way, feeling the long-lost air of freedom, and the anger in his heart was reignited.
He had to figure out who was framing him behind the scenes!
He vaguely felt that all the clues pointed to Professor Su.
He decided to go to the Ability Research Center to find Professor Su and uncover the whole truth!
"Professor Su, you better..." he muttered to himself, his figure vanishing into the night.
